No vibrant colors to show..
No brilliant mating dance to display…
No distinct call to bellow…
No, none of that…just the drive to survive…
Hunted and predated to near extinction…
Now, the casual photographer can catch a glimpse…
Not of spectacular plumage, but of strength, poise, and an undeniable beauty…

What an elegant bird! How tall is that thing? Is that a golf course?
It is about 26 inches in height. It is not a golf course, it is a military base down the road from me. I did some biological work with nocturnal sea birds for the Navy 5 years ago and am about to do it again. (I am so excited) They are exceptional stewards of our local environment as nobody can access it in excess… and I was lucky enough to get this pic along with some Laysan Albatross. I hope to get more this year as I will be out there every day for the next few months.
a military base on Kauai??? yikes…but if it saves the land, then cool
It’s all good.

Thank you!
